Sven-Ole Schmidt: Detection of Multipath Interference with Center Frequency Adaption in an UWB Transceiver Model
In Industry 4.0 applications the communication between sensor nodes is indispensable.
But, due to multipath propagation, a received RF signal is the superposition of multiple echoes of the transmit signal, reflected on walls and other obstacles. The limited bandwidth of the transmit signal leads to fusing and overlapping of the single signal-echoes. Therefore, the superposition results in constructive and destructive interference. For the Analysis of multipath propagation, like done in UWB based single anchor indoor localization systems, this leads to erroneous position estimations, since the interference is not detectable, necessarily.
To detect multipath interference, we adapt the center frequency of the transmission to vary the resulting superposition of the multipath propagation. For evaluation, we show the influence of the center frequency on interference by the design of a UWB Transceiver Model including multipath propagation. This model is evaluated by real measurements of a multipath setup for four different center frequencies.
