Participation in WEBIST 2021 & Honorable Mention as Best Paper Award Candidate

From 26-28 Oct 2021, the "International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies (WEBIST)" has been held virtually this year. We presented our paper "A Teamwork Tool to Support Group Work in Online-based Higher Education: Exploring User Experience and the Use of Support Mechanisms by Students" at the conference and received an "Honorable Mention as Best Paper Award Candidate".

For the 17th time, the "International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies (WEBIST)" took place this year, corona virtual.

As part of the research project IKARion (Intelligent support for small group work in online-supported university teaching, funded by the BMBF), we have developed a teamwork tool together with our project partners at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen to better support online group work of students.

Group work often takes place in particularly large courses online as well as in blended learning courses and seems to be particularly conducive to learning. However, numerous problems can arise within computer-supported group work. In order to better support students online, we have developed a Moodle plugin with a modular structure and different support mechanisms, which allows for automatic analysis of learning behavior as well as self-reporting by students.

The Teamwork Tool was evaluated in two field tests by students of an online and a blended learning course. Survey, group discussion, and log file analysis were used as evaluation methods.

We present the results, derived design implications, and suggestions for improving the functionalities in our paper "A Teamwork Tool to Support Group Work in Online-Based Higher Education: Exploring User Experience and the Use of Support Mechanisms By Students". The presentation was held virtually on 10/26/2021 at 2:15 pm. We are pleased to announce that we received an "Honorable Mention as Best Paper Award Candidate" for our paper and are very happy about it.
