Sleeves up and go
A course of study consists of more than just lectures and courses. At least as important is the opportunity to exchange ideas with other students and to look beyond the horizon of one's own subject. At the TH Lübeck there are plenty of opportunities for this. We would like to introduce you to some of them here.
- Seagulls - become part of the "Formula Student"
We, the Seagulls Luebeck, are a project of the Technical University of Lübeck. Since 2018, we want to design, manufacture and market a racing car every year on our own. We are part of the world's largest design competition "Formula Student", which was founded in 1981 by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in the USA. With our race car we can compete on race tracks all over Europe, like the Red Bull Ring in Austria, or the Hockenheimring in Germany.
We are interdisciplinary and thus combine all fields of study. The competition combines theory in studies with practical experience on and off the race track.
Every year, the team consists of about 30 "slightly crazy but lovable" students. Regardless of prior knowledge or practical experience, we offer every member the same opportunity to contribute. "Teamwork" is our top priority, because we tackle things together and everyone puts their whole heart and soul into this project. So everybody finds a suitable task for himself, no matter if he is a screwdriver, a calculator, a talented organizer or just a hobbyist.
We are structured like a small company, with all the departments and experts it needs to survive in the market. With us you can gain "work experience" and acquire skills that will make it easier for you to start your future job. For our different areas, like engineering, project management, sponsoring, marketing and the different positions in our team, we always need new students from all courses of studies. If you are up for a challenge, regardless of your degree program, you will find a place to contribute with us.
With 3 years of experience in this field, we are proud to announce our first successes. With the 2nd place in the cost report in Austria and a successful participation in 2 events this season (2021), we are proud to present our work. Continuous progress in development and the constant work with new partners drives us to improve our car again and again. So in the upcoming season we are constructing the SG-03, our 3rd Seagull.
- Why not make a pit stop in the student workshop building 5 or in our team room building 20A.

Craft beer has been on the rise for several years. This is also the case now at the TH Lübeck. In 2020, we students of the AEV mechanical engineering specialization have started to set up a micro brewery on campus.
In our brewing room in building 21-1.13 are our two brewing kettles and the other equipment. Here we can brew 20 liters of beer per kettle. With malt milling, mashing, lautering, wort boiling and the various hop additions, a brewing day is well filled. After that, a lot of patience is required until we can taste the finished beer together after about 4-8 weeks of fermentation and storage.
You don't need any special experience or previous knowledge to brew beer with us. You should only be enrolled in the mechanical engineering program at the TH Lübeck. You can learn all the basics needed for brewing your first beer in just a few hours and apply them during the brewing process.
For us mechanical engineers, brewing offers many opportunities to apply and improve our skills. For example, the brewing process can be further optimized with the help of various components or by changing the recipes and process steps.
If you are interested in joining us for the next brewing day, you can reach us at the following e-mail address: th-braeu(at)th-luebeck.de.
We look forward to seeing you! - Students for Sustainability - S4S
In order to avoid this "madness", we as a university initiative actively work for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at our university, on campus and in people's minds.
Raising awareness and advancing sustainable development (in teaching) play an important role in this, which is why establishing it in the university is the focus of our work at Students 4 Sustainability. With numerous projects, we work to develop our university in a future-oriented way and to influence it positively.
We always try to make our projects as diverse as possible in order to bring about change on many different levels. Our group unites students from all departments and is open to students from all three universities in Lübeck.
With our projects we work towards behavioral changes in a personal, university-related or overall social context.
We do not work against, but with various university-relevant actors.
You can find info about events & actions on our Instagram channel at s4s.luebeck (https://www.instagram.com/s4s.luebeck/).
We do all this with one main goal: to make sustainable action not only socially acceptable, but a matter of course - out of the bubble, out of the conference rooms; into society and into action.

- Klokurier ("No shitty news") - Student Newspaper
The KloKurier is the perfect way to find out about the latest happenings at the university.
So that you don't have to search for everything yourself, the KloKurier team takes care of collecting all relevant information and putting it on one page.
When and where is the next student council meeting? Which online events are currently running? When is the next karaoke party at the Dorfkrug? Are there new lecture series or workshops in the Gründer-Cube?
In addition to the dates and events, there is always a small interview, a portrait of a person or another article. The KloKurier is published every first Monday of the month online and as a notice in almost all toilet rooms of the university.
Now it's your turn!
The KloKurier team is always looking for support. You feel like writing an article yourself? Are you interested in design and layout? Or do you just want to know how the KloKurier is created?
Then send us an email to klokurier(at)stupa-thl.de or come to the next editorial breakfast.
