Who are you, and what kind of event was that?
I am Dr. Tina John and I was at the INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER SUPPORTED EDUCATION in Angers France (CSEDU) from 02.05. - 04.05. as a software developer of the Institute for Interactive Systems (ISy) at the Technische Hochschule Lübeck.
CSEDU is an annual meeting place for the presentation and discussion of new educational tools and environments, best practices and case studies on innovative technology-supported learning strategies as well as institutional strategies for computer-supported education, including open and distance learning.
How could you contribute to the event?
I presented the results of our project Onlinecampus Pflege - Schwerpunkt kompetenter Umgang mit digitalen Technologien in Pflege und Versorgung with two contributions:
- “Ad-Hoc Assessment for Microlearning Units in Competency-Based Learning Paths in Learning Management Systems"
- "Shorter Texts, Less Scrolling, More Visual Support for Younger Learners: Low-Threshold GDPR Conform Registration Form with Double Opt-In for the Learning Management System Moodle".
In terms of content, these contributions dealt with the low-threshold registration for the further education offer of the Onlinecampus Pflege and the cost- and benefit-efficient facilitation of the recognition of prior knowledge in the project's Moodle platform.<o:p></o:p>
As session chair of the "Technology for STEM" session, I was able to provide insights into recommended didactic approaches and tools for science, technology, engineering and math education.
What did you take away from the event?
Learner mobility, learning recommendations, the promotion of learning motivation and the use of AI in teaching were very present topics at the CSEDU. Different international strategies were presented and discussed for these topics and synergies were identified. Many of the developments presented are available as open source, which made the solutions even more interesting for me.
Give us a highlight from the event
The keynote lecture by Zach A. Pardos "AI for Adaptive Tutoring and College Student Success" provided interesting insights into the developments and solutions for supporting learners on very different levels. These ranged from feedback in the learning task to course selection for the individual curriculum to the recommendation of the university in order to be able to achieve one's own learning goals, whereby the recognition process of existing achievements at different universities was also discussed.
Angers as a city was an exceptionally good host and the conference organization was also very good.
