How do I find a new challenge?

I have a career. Life is good. I am highly qualified, mid-career. The job is demanding. I know my field inside out. The position is well paid, I get along with my supervisors, and there are promotion prospects. But there are few intellectual challenges. A pity. I like my team. I have known them for a long time—they are happy with the status quo. Am I happy? Do I want to change something? Do I perhaps even want to change myself? Life is good.

Was that really all? Or is there more?

I dream of searching for knowledge again. I want to ask questions without first checking whether the answer makes economic sense. Where I am now, I am given new tasks when something doesn't work out right. If the goal is worth it: wouldn’t it be exciting to ask different questions and find new ways to achieve it? To keep searching, even if it takes longer?

I have experience - who will benefit from it? I want to pass on my knowledge and skills to young people at the start of their careers. I also want to be challenged by peers who question my truths. I want to engage in in-depth discussions and find innovative solutions to tomorrow’s problems.

I have a creative streak, I enjoy teamwork, and I value open exchange. Many of my skills are not fully utilized in my current job. I like analyzing problems, but I prefer anticipating them and finding pragmatic solutions. I am persistent and conscientious, but also open-minded and freedom loving - where can I find like-minded spirits?
