Application Procedure for Students with International Bachelor Degree

Be sure to read all information concerning the requirements before starting your application. Please note that there are different application procedures for students who graduated from a German university and for students who graduated from a non-German university. Students with a German Bachelor Degree can find detailed information here. Students with an international Bachelor Degree can find all necessary information at the current page.

General requirements

  1. Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Renewable Energies with at least 180 CP and a grade of 2.7 or better (German rating system from 1 to 5, where 1 is the best).
  2. Proof of English language skills B2
    • TOEFL min. 80 points internet-based or 550 points written examination, or
    • IELTS min. 6.0, or
    • Engish was the official language of the Bachelor study program, or
    • English is the native language.
  3. Proof of water-related modules with superior grading within the Bachelor study program (e.g. spezialisation in water engineering, Bachelor thesis with a topic on water engineering).

Application procedure

Step 1

Please very if you fulfil the general requirements above. If you fulfil the general requirements, you may send all paperworks to uni-assist (a federal organisation which evaluates international degrees and transforms the grades into the German grading system) and select our study program Water Engineereing Master at TH Lübeck. You have to upload all necessary personal information, certificates and paperwork. Please make sure to strictly follow the uni-assist guidelines. Please verify that you have signed the forms and payed the fees.

Important: Applicants from China and Vietnam must apply to Akademische Prüfstelle - APS before or while sending their documents to uni-assist.

Documents must reach the uni-assist organisation no later than March 1st. Please take postal delivery time into consideration. If necessary, use an expedited postal service. Notification of receipt of documents will be sent by E-Mail.

Step 2

After receiving your application the organisation uni-assist will send you, by conventional post or by E-Mail, the acknowledgement of receipt (we are not responsible for postal delivery delays). They will inform you, if something is missing and you still have time to submit it later. Only after this step is completed, your application will be considered in the official selection procedure.

Step 3

Please also register your application in our pre-application form. This will help us track your application during the selection process.

Certification of documents

In Germany, any public authority that holds an official seal is allowed to officially authenticate documents. These include a Gemeindeverwaltung, Landkreis and lower administrative authorities (such as an Ortsbürgermeister or Ortsvorsteher, Stadtverwaltung, Bürgeramt, Rathaus, Kreisverwaltung, etc.). Courts and notaries are also included. Public authorities in Germany are entitled, but not obliged, to authenticate foreign-language documents. If you are already in Germany and are unable to find a public authority that will authenticate your documents, please contact the embassy of your home country.

Certificates must always be submitted in the original language of the home country, and also as an English or German translation. If a certificate issued in a non-English speaking country is issued in English as well as in the original language, then the English-language version counts as an original certificate. This applies to certificate versions in German as well. Certificates issued in French cannot be accepted, they have to be translated into German or English. Please rempeber that translators cannot authenticate any original-language documents, only the translations they have issued themselves. Please remember that translations have to be certified. However, if the copy of a translation which you submit bears the translator's original stamp then - and only then! - is an additional certification not necessary.

The translation of certificates essentially has to be carried out by an official authority, e.g. by the authorized department of the institution that issued the certificate, or by a sworn translator. Any translations done by German translation bureaus that do not fulfil this requirement will not be accepted. Any translations done abroad have to be carried out by an institution authorized to carry out sworn translations (or equivalent) in that country.

Your documents may be authenticated by the following institutions:

  • the schools or universities who issued them, or the relevant Department of Education in your home country
  • the Diplomatic Missions to the Federal Republic of Germany (Embassy or consulate)
  • the Culture Department at the Embassy of the country the certificate was issued in
  • the authorities and notaries authorized to carry out official authentications in the country in question

TH Lübeck will make the final decision based on the evaluation done by uni-assist. We will inform students as soon as uni-assist has validated the application and informed us about your complete application and fulfillment of the eligibility criteria. Please start immediatley applying for the visa using your admission, which might several months in some cases. In case you have trouble getting the visa or due to a late visa, must arrive late, or withdraw your application, please inform us.
