During the Welcome Weeks, you will receive all the important information you need for your studies at Technische Hochschule Lübeck and get to know your new university and fellow students.
Tutors from the Intercultural Hub will accompany many of the Welcome Weeks activities. They will support you throughout the program and help you connect with current students and gain practical insights into student life at TH Lübeck.
Below you will find more details about the program. We invite you to become part of the international community at TH Lübeck and look forward to meeting you soon!
Please note the following: Photos and videos will be recorded during the Welcome Weeks. Technische Hochschule Lübeck uses these photos for its websites, social media presences and makes the photos available to all Welcome Weeks participants.

More information on various topics
Here you will find more information on various topics such as descriptions, further links...
- Come Together
In the morning, there will be a short welcome meeting with all contact persons. We will discuss the upcoming schedule and you will meet your German teachers.
The first German lesson will begin immediately afterwards. At lunchtime, the intercultural tutors will pick you up and accompany you to your first visit to the cafeteria. If you don't have a campus card yet, you can get one at this time. Please bring €20 in cash with you.
- German Classes
During the Welcome Weeks you will have German lessons and you will experience a fun and interesting German start of campus life at TH Lübeck. We have one group for beginners with no prior knowledge, one group for beginners with some prior knowledge, and one group for advanced German learners.
In order to ensure a good planning of the German lessons, please let us know your language level by e-mail to sprachenzentrum(at)th-luebeck.de. If you are unsure, please consult the CEFR global scale. If you have zero knowledge of German, please let us know as well.
During Welcome Weeks, you have the opportunity to register for your semester-long German course before anyone else, ensuring that there are still enough spots available. If you wish, your German teacher can provide an individualized course recommendation.
- Introductory Lecture 1: Introduction to Student Life
What sport activities are offered to THL students? How to use public transport and what are the advantages of the Semesterticket? Where do I get lunch? How do I connect with the student commitees and what is ESN? What do I do in case of medical emergencies, accidents or illnesses?
These and other questions will be answered during this session. We will cover all topics related to being a student at THL.
- Introductory Lecture 2: Academic Aspects
During this session, you will get to know the university related apps (e.g. QIS, Moodle, Webmail...), learn about the organizational structure at THL, how to find lecture and examination schedules, exam registrations and how to access your grades and much more. All this information is essential for your stay at TH Lübeck - do not miss it!
In order to deepen your knowledge, a practical exercise will take place after the lecture. Some senior students are going to supervise and to support you. Please make sure you bring your laptop!
- Guided City Tour Lübeck and Billiards
Discover Lübeck in a guided city tour. Together with your fellow students, you will experience Lübeck's famous landmarks, the medieval passages, the waterways around the old town and much more. You will learn many interesting facts and hopefully have a great time together.
We'll meet at the Holstentor. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a rain coat if necessary. The tour will be accompanied by senior students.
Directly after the tour and a short lunch break, some senior students are going to meet you at the Billard Sport Casino which is rented exclusively for the participants of the Welcome Weeks. Enjoy a fun afternoon! Food and drinks have to be paid by yourself. You aren't allowed to bring your own food and drinks!
- Study Program and Profile Info
Who's who in the department? Where can you do what? Where do you need to be during the first week of lectures? Where can you receive individual counseling? These questions and more will be answered at the department meeting. You will receive an academic overview of your department and its offices. You will learn more about course participation and how to register for exams. You will also receive information on how courses and lectures are organized in your department and where to find module descriptions and course passwords. Furthermore, we will help you organize your timetable based on your learning agreement. There will be time for questions and recommendations, of course. After this meeting, you will be ready to start lectures and coursework!
Exchange students, please bring your Learning Agreement to these meetings.
- Workshop 1: Intercultural Awareness

The workshop is designed to enable you to improve your communication skills and intercultural competence, which will be useful for daily life in your new cultural environment as well as at university. The basics of intercultural communication that you will learn in this workshop will also be helpful for your future professional engagement.
The workshop deals with the comparison of different cultures. It shows that there are many similarities, despite different ways of thinking and acting that are culturally determined. The workshop sharpens your senses for this fact with the help of film clips, practical exercises and role-plays. You will learn how to deal more sensitively with critical moments and potential pitfalls.
The workshop allows you to experience intercultural communication “first hand” thanks to the diversity of our participants, who come from different countries around the world!
Coaches: Nicola Graessner, Evans Gumbe
The intercultural training sessions usually last one day and are conducted by qualified internal and external intercultural trainers. Each trainer has many years of professional expertise in this field and has had experience of asserting themselves in a foreign cultural environment in various contexts.
- Workshop 2: Communication at THL
Communication is the basis of our daily life, when working in teams and international networking. The way we communicate differs depending on our family and educational background, peer groups, regional/social circumstances, and national rules and settings.
In this introductory lecture we will explore and experience how communication works in everyday German university life and which rules and settings influence international communication and teamwork. We reflect on our own cultural standards and compare different communication styles.Coach: Evans Gumbe
- Guided City Tour Hamburg
Hamburg, the gateway to the world! We explore the city together on a guided tour. And afterwards there will be a harbor tour by boat.
