Mobility for academic and administrative staff
A stay abroad also offers teachers and staff at TH Lübeck a unique opportunity to gain international experience, gain new perspectives in teaching and research, and establish valuable networks with colleagues worldwide. Whether through exchange programs, guest lectureships, or research collaborations, a stay abroad not only enriches personal and professional development but also contributes to the internationalization of our university.
The following opportunities for stays abroad are available to staff members of TH Lübeck:
- Erasmus+ staff mobility: Mobility for teaching as well as Mobility for further education and training
- DAAD Funding: Lecturer program, conference travel program, lecture tour program, bilateral exchange for scientists and researchers
- DAAD HAW.International: Conference travel
- Flying Faculty at the German Jordanian University
- German-American Fulbright Commission: Research and teaching in the USA
Erasmus+ staff mobility
The Erasmus+ program promotes staff mobility by funding guest lectures at partner universities, visits by foreign company representatives to German universities, and continuing education and training measures for university staff at universities and/or companies. The duration of a mobility period is 2 to 60 consecutive days, not including travel time.
Lecturers can only be funded as staff through the Erasmus+ program if they have a contractual relationship with the university. Emeritus professors and retired teachers can be considered for mobility. There must be a contractual relationship between the university and the participant.
Mobility for teaching purposes can only take place at an Erasmus+ partner university of TH Lübeck and requires a teaching load of 8 hours per full week (for 2 weeks = 2 x 8 hours). For mobility periods exceeding one week (5 working days or 7 calendar days), the required teaching load is calculated on a pro rata basis (8 hours for a full week + remaining days according to the formula: 8 hours / 5 days * number of additional days). Note: If teaching and continuing education are combined, the teaching load is reduced to 4 hours/week (in this case, the mobility is documented as STA mobility). No minimum teaching load or minimum length of stay is specified for invited personnel from companies.Mobility for further education and training can take place at an (Erasmus+ partner) university, in a company, or at another relevant workplace in one of the program countries. The range of funding opportunities is very broad, leaving plenty of scope for designing individual stays abroad. Funding is available, for example, for staff training weeks (international meetings for the exchange of experience), job shadowing, work placements, participation in language courses, workshops or seminars, and study visits. Excluded are further training courses within the framework of research projects with a direct research connection and participation in conferences. In order to ensure high-quality mobility activities with the greatest possible impact, the activity in question must be related to the professional development of the staff and meet the requirements in terms of learning outcomes and personal development.
The funding conditions are regulated in the Grant Agreement between TH Lübeck and the participants. The work or teaching plan for the mobility is set out in a mobility agreement before the start and signed by all three parties (university staff, TH Lübeck, and host institution). After completion of the mobility measure, an EU survey must be completed. In addition, the duration of the stay must be confirmed by the host institution.
Funding rates
The Erasmus+ mobility grant covers travel and subsistence costs, which are subsidized by the EU COM/NA DAAD as unit costs. Parallel funding for similar costs from other EU programs is excluded.
It is possible to arrange financial support for a shorter period (e.g., two days) than the total Erasmus+ stay (e.g., five days) (zero grant period).
Daily allowances
The final calculation of the funding period is based on the specific start and end dates of the stay for the mobility activity, as confirmed by the host institution. In addition, two travel days can be paid as per diem costs:
Destination country Funding amount up to the 14th day of the activity Funding amount from the 15th to the 60th day of the activitiy Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden 180 Euro 126 Euro Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slowakei, Slovakia, Spain, Czech Republic, Cyprus 160 Euro 112 Euro Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Rumania, Serbia, Turkey, Hungary 140 Euro 98 Euro Travel allowance
Distances are calculated as one-way distances using the EU Commission's distance calculator. The place of departure does not have to be the same as the location of the sending institution. In this case, travel receipts must be submitted as proof of the actual place of arrival and departure. If at least 50% of the journey is made using low-emission means of transport (train, bus, bicycle, carpool), participants can apply for up to 6 additional travel days and receive the increased travel allowance. To do so, a sworn statement must be submitted by the participant.

Extraordinary costs for expensive travel will be approved if participants can prove that the travel allowance (according to the distance band) does not cover at least 70% of the participant's actual travel costs. The exceptional costs for expensive travel that may then be approved can cover up to 80% of the total costs of the trip. If the exceptional costs for expensive travel are approved, they replace the travel allowance.
Funding opportunities for participants with disabilities or chronic illnesses, as well as participants with child(ren)
TeilneParticipants with a disability (GdB 20 or higher or a proven disability that results in additional financial needs) or a chronic illness that results in additional financial needs, and participants who are going abroad with a child or children, can apply for actual costs for stays abroad. The application must be submitted digitally to the NA DAAD at least 2 months before the start of the mobility. A maximum of EUR 15,000 per mobility period can be approved. At least 70% of the approved funds must be paid to the recipients as a first installment before the start of the mobility period (in accordance with the provisions of Articles 3 and 4 of the Grant Agreement). A subsequent application during the mobility period is possible. This requires a separate application.
