Project background
In the FutureSkills project, a joint platform is being developed for universities in Schleswig-Holstein that will provide digital learning opportunities for students and teachers and link teachers from different universities. The focus is on learning opportunities for basic digital skills that are relevant to all courses of study, based on the Future Skills Framework of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wirtschaft. Here, "future skills" are defined as abilities that will become important in the coming years for professional life in all sectors and/or for social participation. In total, the framework describes 18 skills in the categories of technological skills, basic digital skills and classic skills. Therefore, on the FutureSkills course information pages, offerings are categorized into Tech, Digital, and Classic programs, and the platform can be searched specifically by these. The FutureSkills skills grid clarifies the concept and provides recommendations for further courses/modules in the corresponding categories.
FutureSkills provides a large number of online courses - also via the integration of other course portals such as MOOChub.org. Students can take these as self-paced courses. Teachers can use these courses as they wish as supplementary teaching material for their courses or also for the completion of (partial) course credits.
The FutureSkills platform not only offers complete online courses, but in the future will also provide a wide variety of learning content and materials that teachers have created and share with others. These can be individual lecture or learning videos, but also prepared scripts, exercise units, animations and much more. The materials are licensed under a Creative Commons license and can be used and further developed as desired (subject to the license conditions). Thus, for example, teachers can quickly integrate current topics into a lecture or make their course more varied by using a variety of media.
