Environmental Management, M.Sc.
Study Plan – 3 or 4 Semesters?
The Master’s Programme in Environmental Management (M.Sc.) can be completed in 3 semesters – provided you hold a bachelor degree with 210 ECTS in Environmental Engineering or a comparable field.
For students with 180 ECTS or a non-environmental bachelor degree, a study duration of 4 semesters is typical. This is necessary to complete additional foundational modules or fulfill prerequisites.
The recommended study mode is full-time, on-site.
Program start:
• SoSe (3 semester course of study)
• WiSe (4 semesters course of study)
Standard period of study: 3 semesters
Possible study duration: 4 semesters (with 180 ECTS Bachelor degree or a bachelor degree other than environmental engineering)

Why 4 Semesters?
Students with 180 ECTS or from non-environmental bachelor programmes need to earn an additional 30 ECTS to complete a total of 300 ECTS across the entire bachelor and master programme. Since approximately 30 ECTS are typically earned per semester, a study duration of 4 semesters is usual.
Students who completed a bachelor’s degree in a field other than environmental engineering often lack foundational knowledge in environmental management. These missing prerequisites must be made up. The required modules are usually offered in the winter semester. Important: There is no accumulation of prerequisites. This means students with a 180 ECTS bachelor’s degree in a field other than environmental engineering can count the remedial modules toward their missing 30 ECTS.
Note: The standard study period for this programme is 3 semesters. Extending the study duration to 4 semesters may affect Bafög payments or other forms of financial support. Please consult the relevant institutions regarding their requirements for the standard study period.
